BEWARE FILE FOR TOPS-10 VERSION 7.03 CUSP DISTRIBUTION


1.0  GENERAL INFORMATION

This BEWARE file is for  general  warnings  only.   BEWARE  files  for
specific products are in the SFD of that product on the CUSP tape.

The organization of the CUSP tape has changed slightly from  the  CUSP
tape  shipped  with  Version  7.02.   The GALAXY components are now in
their own SFDs  under  the  GALAXY  SFD.   For  instance,  the  LPTSPL
component can now be found in DSKB:[10,7,GALAXY,LPTSPL].

The CUSP tape consists of two volumes.



2.0  SOFTWARE CHANGES ON THIS TAPE

2.1  Copyrights

An examination of the CUSP tape will show that all  the  sources  have
been  changed.  The products listed in the section "New Software" have
changed because of development.  Some of the products  listed  in  the
section  "Maintenance  Software" have changed by remastering the CUSPs
which have previously been autopatched;   the  rest  of  the  products
listed  in  this  section  include  edits  which fix reported software
problems but have never been shipped in source form.

The products NOT mentioned in these two sections have not had  changes
since  their previous release.  The only change to these sources is to
incorporate copyrights into their binaries.  To prevent  confusion  of
the maintenance level of the product, no edit number has been assigned
to this copyright change.



2.2  New Software

The new products on this tape are:

     1.  ACCT

         It is imperative that ACCT.BWR is read  before  installation.
         This  SFD  contains ACTDAE, NEWACT, and REACT (which has been
         completely rewritten).

     2.  ACTSYM

     3.  BACKUP

     4.  BOOT

         Note that BTONCE does not run under 7.02.

     5.  BOOTM

     6.  CATLOG - This product is new.

         The  CATLOG  program  is  the  only  reader  and  writer   of
         STRLST.SYS.   When  it is run for the first time, it looks up
         the the existing STRLST.SYS file (file format 0) and converts
         it  to  a  new  format  (file  format 1) under the same name.
         Therefore, before running CATLOG, be sure to  make  a  backup
         copy  of  the  old  STRLST.SYS  file  for drop back purposes.
         CATLOG will not do this for you.

     7.  CRSCPY

     8.  CTHNRT - Found on the DECNET tape.

         This product replaces NRT which was  shipped  on  the  DECNET
         tape with 7.02.

     9.  D60JSY - IBMCOM must be rebuilt using this product.

    10.  DAEMON

    11.  DECLAR

    12.  DIRECT

         This product is an update of DIR which  was  shipped  on  the
         TOOLS tape with 7.02.

    13.  DDT

    14.  FAL - Found on the DECNET tape.

         This is now a separate product.  It used to be a part of NFT.

    15.  FILCOM

    16.  FILDAE

         The /ALL switch to FILDAE no longer implies  /CREATE.   These
         switches are now independent of each other.  Therefore if you
         want another user to have total access  and  the  ability  to
         create files you must specify /ALL/CREATE.

    17.  GALAXY

         It is important that GALAXY.BWR is read before installation.

    18.  HELP

    20.  JOBDAT

    21.  KNILDR - This product is new.

    22.  LCP - This product is new.

    23.  LINK

    24.  LOGIN

         Due to the changes required by the new accounting system  and
         the  major  code  re-organization  that  followed, some minor
         incompatible changes exist between  LOGIN  %64  and  previous
         versions.   There also exist a number of functional additions
         to support 8-bit terminal I/O and a new mail  interface.   We
         strongly  suggest  you refer to LOGIN.DOC for a complete list
         of these changes.

         The .DOC file states that LOGIN has been  tested  under  7.02
         and  7.02/Autopatch  monitors.   While  this  is true, it has
         received very limited testing.  There are, however, no  known
         problems running under the previous monitor.

2.3  Maintenance Software

TOPS-10 is now being autopatched.  Some of the products  on  the  CUSP
tape  have  been "remastered" with Autopatch.  That is, the product on
this CUSP tape has all patches inclusive of Autopatch tape #13.  There
is  also  a  class  of  products  which are maintenance releases.  The
remastered and maintenance released CUSPs are:

     8.  MAKLIB

     9.  MCB - Found on the DECNET tape.

    17.  TKB36 - Found on the DECNET tape.

    18.  VNP36 - Found on the DECNET tape.




2.4  Deletions

The program CONFIG has been deleted from the  CUSP  tape  because  all
functionality has been included as an application in OPR.



3.0  IBMCOM

The D60JSY components from the CUSP tape distributed with this release
supersede  any previous D60JSY components from an IBMCOM tape.  IBMCOM
MUST be rebuilt with this D60JSY product.

The DDT11 and MACDLX which are on this CUSP tape have not been  tested
with  IBMCOM.   You  should  use  the  DDT11  and MACDLX on the IBMCOM
distribution tape to build IBMCOM.



4.0  CUSTOMER SUPPORTED TAPE

The following products have been moved to the Customer Supported tape:

     1.  BOOTDX

         Microcodes (including the DX10 microcode) can now  be  loaded
         by BOOT.

     2.  SYSINF

         The functionality provided by SYSINF  has  been  incorporated
         into GALAXY.

     3.  SPROUT

         The BA10 is no longer supported.

     4.  QMANGR

         No DEC-supplied software requires QMANGR.  The  functionality
         provided  by  QMANGR has been replaced by the QUEUE.  UUO and
         GALAXY.

     5.  NRT - From the DECNET tape.

         NRT has  been  superseded  by  CTHNRT  because  of  DECnet-10
         Version 4.0.
