TOPS-20 GALAXY BEWARE FILE FOR AUTOPATCH TAPE 20
Autopatch Tape 20 of GALAXY Version 6 has many changes in the operator
interface (OPR) for communicating with the systems in a cluster.
Before Autopatch Tape 20 GALAXY, the operator could only obtain the
status of remote devices and queues but could not control them.
That is, the /CLUSTER-NODE: switch was only available for use with the
OPR> SHOW command.
With Autopatch Tape 20 GALAXY, the operator can now control a device
or job on a remote system without having to log in to the remote
system. The operator does this by including the /CLUSTER-NODE: switch
with the following OPR action commands:
ABORT CANCEL CONTINUE HOLD IDENTIFY MODIFY NEXT
RELEASE REQUEUE SET START SHUTDOWN STOP SWITCH
UNDEFINE
Otherwise, the commands listed above still function exactly as they
did before Autopatch Tape 20. For a description of these commands,
please refer to the TOPS-20 Operator's Command Language Reference
Guide.
Example
To start printer 0 on remote system THEP::, the operator issues the
START command from local system RONCO::.
OPR>START PRINTER 0 /CLUSTER-NODE:THEP
10:41:35 Received message from THEP::
10:41:33 Printer 0 -- Startup Scheduled --
The confirming message also appears at the remote system THEP::.
OPR>
10:41:33 Printer 0 -- Startup Scheduled --
Compatibility
The Autopatch Tape 20 version of GALAXY version 6 runs in a TOPS-20
V7.0 cluster made up of systems that are running any supported version
of GALAXY. Autopatch Tape 20 GALAXY can still do everything Field
Image GALAXY can do. (Field Image GALAXY version 6 is the base product
as it was released in TOPS-20 Version 7.0, before any autopatches.)
Autopatch Tape 20 GALAXY cannot control any device, queue, or job on a
remote system that is not running Autopatch Tape 20 or later. However,
Autopatch Tape 20 GALAXY can return status to and obtain status from
remote Field Image GALAXYs.
