The program below may be downloaded to a LaserWriter to correct three
bugs in the LaserWriter's serial I/O driver:

  - occasional failure to send a needed XON
  - erroneously reading past end-of-file (control-D)
  - dropped characters during large volumes of output

The first two of these bugs are documented in the Apple LaserWriter
appendix of the PostScript Language Reference Manual; the third has
been discussed previously on laser-lovers.

To install this patch, first edit it if necessary to change the system
administrator password from its default value of zero; then simply send
it to the printer. Once installed, the patch survives until the
LaserWriter is next powered off.

This patch applies only to LaserWriters and not to other PostScript
printers. Sending it to a non-LaserWriter or sending it more than once
will have no effect. TranScript site administrators may wish to
download this patch automatically as part of the hourly script.

The program begins at the "%!" and ends immediately after the last line
of hex digits.
