1.0##<SUMMARY
.B1
<REDALL IS A PROGRAM TO GIVE A CURSORY TEST OF THE STATE OF
THE DISKS ON A SYSTEM. ^IT IS NOT INTENDED TO BE A DIAGNOSTIC,
ALTHOUGH IT DOES PRINT OUT ERROR INFORMATION WHICH WILL BE OF
HELP TO FIELD SERVICE. ^ITS MAIN VIRTUE IS THAT IT RUNS QUICKLY
AND ACCESSES ALL OF THE BLOCKS ON ALL DISKS. ^FURTHERMORE IT RUNS
UNDER THE MONITOR, SO THAT ERROR REPORTING AND RECOVERY ARE THE
SAME AS FOR REGULAR USERS. ^IT IS RECOMMEND THAT <REDALL BE RUN
DAILY AND WHENEVER FIELD SERVICE HAS FINISHED MAINTENANCE.

<REDALL WILL READ ALL BLOCKS OF ALL UNITS (<FHA, <DPA, <DPB, ETC.)
WHETHER THEY ARE IN A FILE STRUCTURE OR NOT USING SUPER <USETI.
^IT WILL NOT READ UNITS WHICH ARE DOWN OR OFF-LINE.
^ERRORS WILL BE ENTERED INTO THE <BAT BLOCK BY THE MONITOR
JUST LIKE NORMAL FILE ERRORS.
^IF <REDALL FINDS NO ERRORS, IT WILL TYPE "^^ALL DISK UNIT READ\\" AND
RETURN TO THE MONITOR. ^IF IT FINDS AN ERROR, IT WILL PRINT
A HEADING, FOLLOWED BY CYLINDER, SURFACE, AND SECTOR
IN DECIMAL FOLLOWED BY <CONI BITS 12 THRU 29, THEN THE UNIT NAME.
^IF <REDALL GETS AN UNEXPECTED ERROR FROM A <UUO, IT PRINTS
"^^ABNORMAL ERROR RETURN\\" AND EXITS TO THE MONITOR.
<REDALL TAKES ABOUT 2 MINUTES FOR EACH <RP02 UNIT AND CAN BE
RUN DURING TIMESHARING WITHOUT AFFECTING OTHER USERS NOTICEABLY.
.B1
^THE READ ALGORITHM IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND.
<REDALL READS 40 DECIMAL BLOCKS IN ONE GULP IN <DUMP MODE.
^IF ANY ERRORS OCCUR, <REDALL READS THE GULP 1 BLOCK
AT A TIME UNTIL IT FINDS
THE ERROR OR EXHAUSTS THE GULP. ^IT PRINTS EACH BLOCK IT FINDS BAD
ON RE-READ. ^IF IT DOES NOT FIND ANY BLOCKS BAD IN THE GULP
ON RE-READ, IT PRINTS THE FIRST BLOCK OF THE GULP AND FLAGS IT WITH
AN *. ^UPON FINDING THE FIRST GOOD BLOCK AFTER ONE OR MORE BAD BLOCKS
IT RETURNS TO THE MAIN LOOP AND READS A 40 BLOCK GULP STARTING WITH
THE BLOCK FOLLOWING THE FIRST GOOD BLOCK.
