1.0 SUMMARY
TOPS-20 PSI GATEWAY Version 1.0 enables a suitably configured TOPS-20
system in a DECnet Phase III network to connect to Public Packet
Switching Networks (PPSNs) which conform to CCITT Recommendation X.25
(June 1980). The Software Product Description (SPD 21.22.x) defines
the names of the PPSNs which are currently supported by Version 1.0.
TOPS-20 PSI GATEWAY consists of components which reside partly in the
KL central processor and partly in a DN20. It requires DECnet-20
Version 3.0 and TOPS-20 Version 5.1.
2.0 EXTERNAL CHANGES
Not applicable for a new release.
3.0 KNOWN BUGS AND DEFICIENCIES
The network managment command:
CLEAR MODULE X25-PROTOCOL GROUP group-name DTE dte-address
does not clear the dte-address. To circumvent this, the entire group
name must be cleared and redefined for those DTE addresses where still
valid.
If a loop line test fails to complete before network management's
timout period of 3 minutes, the DN20's network management will hang
and will no longer respond to network management commands. This will
occur if the loop count or loop length parameters are too large or if
the line is not operating properly. This problem is remedied only by
reloading the DN20.
4.0 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The TOPS-20 PSI Installation Guide (AA-N819A-TM) provides detailed
instructions for installation of all required components. The PSI.BWR
file on this tape and the DECNET20.BWR file on the DECnet-20
Installation tape should be read carefully before performing an
installation.

5.0 INTERNAL CHANGES
Not applicable for a new release.
6.0 SUGGESTIONS
The X25GEN program which is provided for performing installation
defines default values of 255 for executor maximum address and 576 for
executor block size. These values are much larger than required for
small networks. If your network has less that 140 nodes, you will
obtain better performance if you set the executor maximum address to
140 and the executor block size to 290. The procedure for doing this
is found in the Installation Guide and the PSI.BWR file.
